fab record, schumann’s great piano piece, carnaval, transcribed for orchestra/ballet is wonderful. eXcellent performance and recording/transfer
The lightweight Schumann is relaxed, decently played and sounds early-Decca good. By contrast, the Gounod/Solti is - as one might expect - more hard driven and extrovert. But unfortunately, the recording is way too 'hot' and overloads into rather nasty tape distortion at the drop of a quaver. Not at all nice to listen to, therefore.
