Great music in highly energetic performances - this album pulls me right in each time I listen. The performance of West Side Story has all of the sweep, drama and emotion one comes to expect of this music. But it is the suite from On the Waterfront that surprises. While the film for which this music was written has not aged gracefully, Bernstein's music remains fresh and engaging. Thumbs up! And the music is well complemented by excellent sound. This 1961 recording easily belies its age in this excellent transfer by HDTT - it is delightfully transparent and dynamic, with wonderful capture of instrumental timbre. (I'm listening to the Pure DSD transfer.) Well done HDTT. Another great release.
