The sound on the Firebird Suite is really stunning. On the Debussy and Ravel it is OK.
These interpretations might not be the first choice, perhaps not even the most electrifying, but a very good complement to the other recordings available here, like Ravel (Monteux, Munch) and Firebird (Monteux, Dorati). This release is the natural coupling to the excellent Bernstein Stravinsky/Debussy set from last year. The sound is early Bernstein vintage stereo, full and rich.
