I have these rrcordingsby Ortiz in CD. I bought this one from hdtt to try the sound. And it is really astonishing.
Had this on LP when first released - had forgotten the strength and commitment of Ortiz's playing and Berglund's conducting. The BSO were a great band back then. The transfer is splendid - great spatial detail and dynamics. Recommended.
Fine performances of the snappy Shostakovich concertos, in stunning sound - full of beautiful analog goodness! Seriously, the piano sound is just sublime. And look out for future Berglund/Shostakovich recordings of similar late EMI vintage, recorded by Stuart Eltham. He was a longtime Abbey Road engineer, a favourite of George Martin, a real gentleman who also managed to record some of the best-sounding analog classical recordings in history. Listen to this and see what I mean!
