Arguably the top recording of this bona fide masterpiece in much-improved sound. A must buy.
HDTT has made me very happy! I owned the vinyl edition of this gorgeous version of Shostakovich’ violin concerto in the Eighties, and lost the record over time by moving houses. I have been looking for a digital version for many years. The purchase through HDTT was easy and swift, and the sound is excellent! Many thanks! Ferenc van Damme Zwolle, The Netherlands
Oistrakh made a speciality of the Shostakovich concerto, and recorded it several times. But this is not his best. For performance go for the Leningrad/Mravinsky (no surprise!) and for sound the NPO/Maxim Shostakovich. This Melodiya is a very claustrophobic recording and Oistrakh sounds not at all at his best.
