We all know these, but they are relatively infrequent in the classical arena. But this is decidedly one. Dido's lament (Track 16) - When I am laid in Earth', sung sublimely by the great mezzo Janet Baker, has justly become a classic of recorded music, whether of the gramophone or any other era. If you do not weep - if only a bit - you must be made of stone. It does tend to overshadow the rest of this fine album, however. The early 60's Decca/Éditions de l'Oiseau-Lyre is superb, also, making this an indispensable purchase.
