This recording has been part of my whole life - all 58 years of it, literally. When my dad was a teenager he and his older brother got into Hi Fi. This was one of their favorite 'test recordings'. By the time I came along several years later this LP was already pretty worn, but when I was young I also got the Hi Fi (and electronics in general) bug and I too listened to this frequently. Although I was always careful, the condition of the LP deteriorated considerably until it was sad to listen to. Several years ago I located another LP online, and though it wasn't as worn as the family heirloom, it didn't live up to the fond recollections of my youth: the enthusiastic virtuoso playing, the impeccably clear (within the limits of the already-worn medium) engineering, the sheer fun of the arrangements. Today I was thinking again about this old favorite and did a search... Which brought me here! I had it in my cart before I could say 'Percussion in Hi Fi'! I listened as soon as I had it downloaded and... I_AM_THRILLED!!! This is the performance and the recording I remember, the one I spent so many hours listening to at high volume, and it's absolutely perfect! Thank you for keeping this recording alive into the 21st century!
Great Sound throughout. Schory tracks closest to the sound and feel of Bang Baroom & Harp. David Carroll tracks also very good indeed. My CD player has a tube audio output plus an up-sampler which genuinely upsamples CD to 24bit/192kHz, so they sound very analogue and very good indeed!
This recording is a good selection of tunes that sounds just sounds great - nice variety of very natural-sounding percussion - excellent transient attack and decay. It sounds great with headphones!
