Great recording that gives full justice to a superb band
This recording is a prime example of MJQ's live shows -- excellent
I remember going to a MJQ concert back in the 60s. I had several of their Atlantic albums and was impressed with their interpretations. This album takes me back there. The performances are superb and the sound is truly excellent. Congrastulations!
With Wally Heider at the controls, one expects good results. This recording delivers. Virtuoso performances beautifully captured.
I have a bias for musicality and technique which my collection of MJQ delivers as enjoyment of the music, my highest criterion. Heath, Kay (also playing on Desmond's Glad To Be Unhappy also reviewed), Lewis, and Milt Jackson delight and deliver their incomparable sound and this recording is excellent. Instrument voicing and stage location is rendered as if seated in the audience. I have the best seat in the house. Highly recommended.
