HDTT knocks this one out of the park. This open reel sourced CD transfer makes available two of the best performed and recorded versions of these works I have heard in a lifetime of collecting. The Berwald in particular is a gem; conveying to the fullest the individuality and kinetic energy of Berwald's style. It was like hearing this work, which I know quite well, for the first time. Five stars for the Mendelssohn as well, and I like Rudolf's inserted little trill at the end of the scherzo, which I believe was a Toscanini touch.
These were new pieces for me. I found the technical aspects of the recordings to be very good with tape noise well controlled and a nice sound stage. Neither of these pieces are among the greatest of symphonic music in that I found them a bit simple. They were both thoroughly enjoyable though and worth having in my collection.
