The list of female American jazz vocalists from the mid 20th Century is a long and impressive one, and I have to confess that until I bought this recording from HDTT, I'd not heard of Maxine Sullivan. More fool me - here she is, singing much well-known repertoire in a beautiful mid-50's stereo recording, immaculately transferred as ever. She may not be as distinctive as say Ella or Billie (for better as well as worse) and not quite as exceptional as Sarah Vaughan, but definitely worthy of a place in the canon of this era. Lovely - highly recommended - and I hope HDTT will find more of her catalogue for us!
