A true touchstone recording by Fritz Reiner, Soloists Maureen Forrester and Richard Lewis, and the incomparable CSO. It's hard to believe that Reiner was not an ardent devotee of Mahler's music, given this recording and the Reiner/CSO recording of Mahler's 4th Symphony. "Das Lied..." was recorded in the pre-renovation Orchestra Hall, Chicago on November 7 & 9, 1959 when Reiner and the CSO were at their peak. This recording was made by RCA's Richard Mohr and Lewis Layton who together produced and engineered so many of the great recordings by Reiner and the CSO. When I saw this was available in FLAC-96k-24b digital, I had to have it. Thank you, HDTT, for an excellent job.
