Excellent sonics and superb playing. I must confess I had not heard the Hohvaness before. It's a bit like holy minimalism (say, Arvo Paart) colliding with Vaughan Williams Tallis Fantasia - but not in a bad way! The Stravinsky is on another HDTT transfer, I believe. It's not one of Stravinsky's more endearing neoclassical works, I'm afraid...
top of the "mountain"...yes!
This 1958 recording was the first ever of what was to become one of the classical world's superstar hits, Hovhaness' 'Mysterious Mountain.'. And, just about everybody agrees that it's still the best. Add in original RCA sonics by Layton/Mohr and remastering by Bob Witrak at HDTT, and you've got another superstar hit. I did the DXD download, and I recommend, recommend, RECOMMEND it! Add in, too, what is probably the best-played Stravinsky 'Fairy's Kiss,' by the CSO in their Reiner-era prime, on record, and you get an audiophile must-have download.
