Captured at a 1980 Concert in Luxembourg by a very knowledgeable recording enthusiast using top equipment the sound is excellent and Goodman near the end of his performing career is in very good form. My only small criticism is that the clarinet could be just a couple of db forward. However, it’s a very enjoyable performance by a renowned Jazz clarinetist who was talented across a broad spectrum of music.
Mr Goodman's classical career may not be as well known as his jazz dito but here one clearly understands how great he was.

Recording Info: Recorded by Jonathan Horwich at the 1980 Echternach Luxembourg Music Festival
Benny Goodman needs no introduction nor any accolades. His unrivaled position in American music is unquestioned. I was in Luxembourg in 1980 recording the classical music festival that took place there every year. Fortuitously, Mr. Goodman heard one of my recordings of another performer at the festival and requested I record the Mozart Clarinet Concerto featuring Mr. Goodman. The result is this tape, capturing the huge ambient church sound, and a live audience (well over 1000 strong), complete with coughs, shuffling sounds, camera clicks, etc. Mr. Goodman was thrilled with the sound on the tape and said it captured the live event perfectly. I used two B&K omni-directional mics about 8 feet in front and above the orchestra. A recording of historical significance.
1 Allegro 14:02
2 Adagio 7:56
3 Rondo: Allegro 11:02
