This was my first introduction to the Hindemith Nobilissima Visione and it still holds a place in my heart. But it was the Bartok that knocked my socks off! The sound is not as spectacular as some the Chicago recordings from the 50's. I'm not an engineer, but my understanding is the renovations changed the acoustics. This recording feels like the sound wasn't given space to blend. It's not terrible, however, and definitely better than in the Martinon CD box reissue. As the best way to hear an impressive couple of performances, I would recommend this!
