I grabbed this out of curiosity — it’s definitely my favourite Ahmad Jamal recording, and I’ve owned it on a lot of formats. My favourite is still the DSD made from a needle drop over at Acoustic Sounds, which is more detailed and has considerably cleaner bass. This is an easy second, though, and is quite a good transfer. I was hoping for the same kind of life-altering re-appreciation like I had with HDTT’s transfer of Jamal’s At The Blackhawk, a really high bar that this excellent transfer fails to meet. I suppose that’s a bit of an unfair expectation on my part. I expect that the listener who desires the flattest of transfers would really dig this one.
