Good performance.Beautiful sounds.
I could concentrate on the text on beautiful melodies. Though this may not be as expressive as modern music, this is worth listening considering the era when this was composed.
this recent addition to the HDTT collection is a "newer" recrding of the fifth, which was akready in the catalogue. i found this version to sound cleaner and more dynamoc. In addition,it was quiter,,fuller, had greater emphis upon thr midbass, and was moreectended on the deeper in the lower bass --a worthy substitute for what had been already available.
This performance is just fiery, "right out of the gate." The emotion and the energy are just palpable. Of course, the sonics are spectacular. Highly recommended.
This recording was recommended by a music enthusiast at an equipment launch night at my favourite audio store. I've been trying to hunt down a hi-res copy of it after he played a "demo" track that night. "Best Bernstein Shostakovich 5th" he said. It is a pretty searing interpretation. Sound wise, I guess you need to allow for the age of the recording, but turn up the volume and it's pretty overwhelming. Marvellous stuff.
