I owned the original "London" LP of this program, but the download from HDTT sounds better than that LP did back in the day. Recorded by the same team that recorded the Solti Wagner Ring and with Dolby (A) Noise Reduction, this recording sounds as good or better than most of today's DDD recordings. Bernstein was rightly praised for his Mozart (and Haydn) for most of his mature years...so it is no surprise that these performances are musically very satisfying.
Who knew that good'ol extrovert Lennie had this sort of Mozart within him Superb music-making and playing, from both Bernstein and the Vienna Phil (no less) characterise this fine disc of slightly-below top rank Mozart. And in lovely, spacious Decca sound as well. A straight 5 stars, then Not quite. I have down-rated it a star because the dsd files are actually in the clumsy dff format, which is virtually impossible to edit proper metadata into (they are virtually blank in the download). Plus, as always, no decent embedded cover images. Time to do something about this, perhaps
