A single Blu-ray disc can hold the data equivalent of 25GB. This means Blu-ray discs can be used to store musical information without audio compression. An ordinary CD samples a piece of music about 44,100 times a second. Each of these tiny audio samples, done at 16 bits of resolution, gives a range of 65,536 possible values for the music. On Blu-ray, however, the sampling is usually done at 96,600 times a second, at 24-bit resolution. The possible number of values leaps to more than 16 million.

All of our releases are processed using DTS-HD. One goal of the DTS-HD Master Audio format is to allow a bit-to-bit representation of the original master. To accomplish this, DTS-HD Master Audio supports variable bit rates up to 24.5 Mbit/s on a Blu-ray Disc and up to 18.0 Mbit/s for HD DVD. The format supports a maximum of 192 kHz sampling frequency and 24-bit depth samples from 2 to 5.1 channels, and 96 kHz/24bit resolution up to 7.1 channels. DTS-HD is capable of virtually any number of discrete channels and is only limited by storage media.
