"Manuel Rosenthal was one of the great French conductors that has been forgotten over time and with the demise of Westminster his recordings were also forgotten. This is my first exposure to maestro Rosenthal and both Debussy works are a real showcase for his talents. “La Mer” is the most beautiful, captivating and even exciting performance I've ever heard of this composition. In the wrong hands “La Mer” can became an absolute bore and I have heard many performances that put me right to sleep. Not so Mr. Rosenthal's I enjoyed the performance immensely with very realistic sound quality especially the ambiance, high percussion and deep bass. “Iberia” was as exciting as they come and perhaps one of the top performances of all time, truly captivating and with the same realistic sound as La Mer. I highly recommend this to all who love Debussy's orchestral music." Teresa Goodwin Positive Feedback Online - Issue 39

Walton's Façade and Charles Alexandre Lecocq's Mamzelle Angot Antole Fistoulari conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden

This RCA Living Stereo recording, one of the best audiophile recordings finally transferred to a digital format. Facade remains in the repertory of the Royal Ballet, and it has been one of the company's steady successes since 1935. The curious thing is that Walton's spoofing score was greeted with yells of opposition when it was originally introduced in 1922. At that time there was no idea that it ever would be made into a ballet. The light ballet has always been among the most popular of genres, and more than any other form of ballet it is dependent upon its musical score. Some serious ballets have achieved acclaim even though set to music that simply will not stand up independently in the concert hall. But a light ballet without a tuneful, agreeable, sophisticated score is unthinkable and it is no mere coincidence that such compilations as Gaite Parisienne, La Boutique Fantasque, Graduation Ball, the Facade and Mamzelle Angot are very much among them.

Ravel Daphnis Et Chloe Charles Munch Boston Sym. Orch. (1961 Recording) The "other" Daphnis recording by Munch and the BSO, this is the 1961 recording, this recording holds it's own sonically and interpretatively against the famous 1955 recording, a mystery why RCA never released this version on CD, now you can compare and you be the judge it might just surprise you. Also included is the Pavane pour une infante defunte recorded by Munch for Angel with the Orchestre de Paris.

Bob Neill Positive Feeback Online Audio Magazine

This recording is better than it sounds! On first hearing. Especially compared with the more lush and beautiful Firebird. What Monteux and RCA get across in this performance and recording is the crisp, raw passion of the music that is often subdued a little in more refined approaches. It took me two hearings to appreciate how good it is. Instruments are separated so effectively and the acoustic is so dry that it often seems we are listening to a chamber rather than a full orchestra. Even when strings play together, they barely seem to blend. Presence and immediacy are stunning. This is The Rite at its incisively brilliant best. Don't sit too close. by Bob Neill Positive Feedback Online

Rafael Fruhbeck De Burgos Conducts the National Orchestra of Spain

Music of: Chapi · Sandizaga · Gimenez Chueca · Valverde · Luna · Vives · Serrano

"I saved the best for last! This is really a fantastic sounding disc by little-known Spanish composers I had never heard of before and since it is a London tape is has plenty of low frequency energy. The music in this collection shines; I have now listened to this 24/96 DVD four times. Twice though speakers and twice though Sennheiser HD-580 headphones and it is so hard to describe the music as I keep getting swept away and lost in its Latin beauty and excitement. For example in Paso's "Benamor" the melodies are so charming, the rhythms so exciting and the Latin percussion perfect. Every single delightful composition is a pure gem. The sound quality is extremely realistic, some of London's best and the high percussion is bright and clear and has a delicacy usually only heard live. There is some unevenness during the beginning of Track 6 "Las Golondrinas" for about thirty seconds then the sound smoothes out and is perfect for the remainder of the DVD. This is most noticeable through headphones; you may not notice it at all through speakers.
If you love Spanish Classical music rush out and get this one right away, you won't be sorry." Teresa Goodwin Positive Feedback Online - Issue 39 Wimpy Player
